About the event

Degradation of a Sage and Elevation of a Sinner: An Evening of Spiritual Storytelling

About the Workshop

Join Pandava dasa at Bhakti School NYC as we unpack symbolic tales about the shifting fates of two pivotal figures - the fallen sage Bharata and the redeemed sinner Ajamila. Through captivating storytelling, we will explore these seminal parables on morality and spirituality from the revered Bhagavata Purana scripture.

We will vividly retell the account of the righteous Bharata, who renounces his kingdom to lead an ascetic life yet tragically becomes attached to a deer in his final days, accelerating his spiritual decline. Alongside, we will recount the dramatic story of Ajamila, a fallen priest who led a life of vice yet attained liberation at the moment of death by unconsciously uttering his son’s name, which happened to be another name for God.

Contemplating these allegories, we will gain insight on:

  • The winding path to enlightenment and lurking pitfalls
  • Fate, fortune and the mystery of divine grace
  • The power of devotion to overcome moral failings

Whether you seek ethical grounding or consoling inspiration, this workshop offers an illuminating plunge into the Vedic scriptures. Join our session of communal storytelling and discussion to discover timeless truths.
